Sam Tanenhaus of The New York Times Book Review delivered the November Bradley Lecture.

Sam Tanenhaus will speak on the state of conservatism in the United States. In a lecture entitled “George W. Bush and the Future of Conservatism,” he will look back at the origins of the conservative movement and discuss its signal moments and themes. He will trace the conservative movement’s relationship to liberalism over the course of many decades--particularly the key moment of intersection between the two--and bring the story up to the present. In his talk, he will discuss key thinkers and activists and conclude by offering some thoughts on where the conservative movement may be headed.

Sam Tanenhaus has been editor of The New York Times Book Review since April 2004. He was previously a contributing editor at Vanity Fair, where he wrote articles on politics and culture, and before that he was assistant to the editor of the New York Times op-ed page. He is the author of Whittaker Chambers: A Biography (1997) and is at work on a biography of William F. Buckley Jr.
