In the context of Egypt exploding in unrest, Syria sinking into sectarian violence, and the growing Islamist threat in North Africa, on Thursday, January 31 former Senator Chuck Hagel -- who has been nominated to be the next Secretary of Defense -- will defend his record before the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Hagel has been accused of being pro-Iran and anti-Israel. Will Hagel’s previous statements on Iran pose problems for this confirmation? Did Hagel refuse to call Hezbollah a terrorist organization? What about Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)? Did he urge President Bush not to bring up Iran’s nuclear program at a G8 meeting?
American Enterprise Institute (AEI) experts are available to answer these and other questions.
