Willard C. Butcher, former chairman of AEI’s Board of Trustees, died on Aug. 25. Bill had a stellar career in business, rising through the ranks at Chase Manhattan Bank to become the bank’s executive vice president in charge of international operations and then its president and chief operating officer.
He was a great defender of the American system of free private enterprise and was very active in AEI’s work, including navigating the Institute’s presidential transition in 1986 and helping to rejuvenate the Institute to new and greater levels of influence at that time. Bill was chairman of the Board of Trustees from 1986 to 1990.
