AEI presents "Economy Watch"--an essential up-to-the-minute briefing on the current economic policy debate and the state of the economy, bringing together AEI’s team of economists, analysts, and special guests.

Participants in this breakfast event include R. Glenn Hubbard, former chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers and now AEI visiting scholar; Michael Prell, former director of the Division of Research and Statistics at the Federal Reserve Board; and Eric M. Engen and Kevin A. Hassett, both AEI resident scholars. Panelists will discuss the likely impact on the economy of a war against Iraq and the effect of this war on monetary and fiscal policy.

  • Before joining AEI, Mr. Hassett was a senior economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and an associate professor of economics and finance at the Graduate School of Business of Columbia University, as well as a policy consultant to the Treasury Department during the George H. W. Bush and Clinton administrations. He served as an economic adviser to the George W. Bush 2004 presidential campaign and as Senator John McCain's chief economic adviser during the 2000 presidential primaries. He also served as a senior economic adviser to the McCain 2008 presidential campaign. Mr. Hassett is a columnist for National Review.
