Youssef Boutros-Ghali became Egypt’s minister of finance in July 2004. Previously, he served as Minister of Foreign Trade, Minister of Economy, and Minister of State for Economic Affairs. From 1986-1993 Mr. Boutros-Ghali was Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister. He was also Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt for seven years and a Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund for six years. Over the last twenty years, he has published twenty-two papers and books on a wide range of theoretical and development issues in the field of economics.

Mahmoud Mohieldin is the minister of investment for the Arab Republic of Egypt. The Ministry of Investment is a newly established Ministry responsible for investment policy, management of state-owned assets, privatization and restructuring of public enterprises, joint ventures, and the non-banking financial services including capital market, insurance, and mortgage finance. Prior to his Ministerial appointment Mr. Mohieldin served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Egypt., as well as on the boards of directors of several other banks and corporations. He was previously an advisor in the Ministries of State, Economy, and Foreign Trade. Mr. Mohieldin also is an Associate Professor in Financial Economics at Cairo University.

Danielle Pletka is the vice president for foreign and defense policy studies at AEI. Her research areas include the Middle East (including Iran, Iraq, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict), South Asia (India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan), terrorism, and weapons proliferation. While at AEI, Ms. Pletka has developed a conference series on rebuilding post-Saddam Iraq, a project on democracy for the Arab world, a roundtable of experts to discuss global energy security, and a project to develop bilateral relations between India and the United States. Before coming to AEI, she served for ten years as a senior professional staff member for the Near East and South Asia on the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. Ms. Pletka has also been a journalist based in Washington and the Middle East.
