In light of ongoing upheaval in Syria, the following AEI scholars are available for comment:
Danielle Pletka
AEI Vice President for Foreign and Defense Policy Studies
dpletka@aei.org- assistant: alex.dellarocchetta@aei.org (202.862.7152)
A former senior professional staff member for the Near East at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Pletka has written that "there's a larger truth behind the problem of the Obama administration's Syria policy" and that "getting America on the side of democracy and freedom is a good thing."
Michael Rubin
AEI Resident Scholar
mrubin@aei.org- assistant: alex.dellarocchetta@aei.org (202.862.7152)
Historian Michael Rubin specializes in the Middle East and directed AEI's "Dissent and Reform in the Arab World" project. Rubin wrote in May that it was "Time to Recall the U.S. Ambassador to Syria," and earlier this month that "there could be no worse signal the Obama administration could send to the Syrian people and broader Arab population elsewhere than to throw a lifeline to a disgraced dictator who has lost all legitimacy at home and abroad."
For additional help in reaching the scholars, other media inquiries, or to reserve AEI's ISDN facilities for radio interviews, please e-mail margaret.mccarthy@aei.org or call 202.862.5823. AEI's in-house ReadyCam TV studio may be booked by calling VideoLink at 617.340.4300.
