Presently on sabbatical from the University of Virginia, Gerard Alexander's current research focuses on the growth of government, and ways in which its role has been limited or reduced in taxes, regulation, and spending programs. His research also examines America's policy of democratization abroad and the conditions for stable democracy. He is author of The Sources of Democratic Consolidation (2002).
