Today, American Enterprise Institute (AEI) director of education policy studies Rick Hess, along with Raegen Miller and Cindy Brown of the Center for American Progress, released recommendations for fixing key provisions of Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)--federal funding targeted at our nation’s neediest students.

These recommended changes to Title I--a key provision of No Child Left Behind--could make significant improvements when it comes to what goes on in America’s schools and school systems day-to-day.

For many years, community financial institutions have been denied fair and equal access to the secondary market. Banks prosper by making prudent loans with an adequate return and maintaining a reasonable cost structure. Today 97 percent of our banks are community banks and they are increasingly finding this business model under siege.

AEI visiting scholar Robert Kaestner and his coauthor Anthony Lo Sasso, both professors at the University of Illinois at Chicago, challenge the underlying assumptions of the health law passed last March in a new study.
