We can debate the best way forward tomorrow. But today we celebrate a victory in the war on terror, and the demise of the man who ordered the deaths of Dan Shanower and nearly 3,000 others on Sept. 11, 2001.

If John Kerry has lied about what he did in Vietnam, and has done so not merely to spice his biography but to influence national policy, then he is surely not the kind of man we want as our president.

As the events of September 11 transformed the national-security debate in the United States, they also have profoundly affected European attitudes toward America.

Anti-Americanism will not disappear. But now hatred of America is becoming isolated, marginalized, and discredited across Europe perhaps like never before.
