China's engagement in Latin America is not necessarily bad news- except when it comes at the expense of American interests and security in the region.

With the coming transition in Chinese leadership, it is unlikely that the world's second largest economy will alter its policies to stimulate growth. As a result, the whole world may feel China's pain.

What matters for China is not whether Westerners believe the system is cracking. The question is: How do the Chinese view their own system?

There’s no need to be defensive; the president made a good call on bin Laden, but his courage in that instance pales next to a record that includes his embrace of American decline, his fear of American leadership, his degradation of the military (and not just the Navy, as the Romney campaign appears to think).
