Senator Jon Kyl Joins AEI as Visiting Fellow
Washington, DC (March 6, 2013) – American Enterprise Institute (AEI) president Arthur Brooks announced today that former Arizona Senator Jon Kyl, has joined AEI as a Visiting Fellow. Kyl, who will also be Senior Advisor at the law firm Covington and Burling, will lead The American Internationalism Project, an important new effort from AEI's Marilyn Ware Center for Security Studies. The Project's focus will be to rebuild and reshape a bipartisan consensus around American global leadership and engagement.
Jon Kyl served eighteen years in the U.S. Senate after previously serving for eight years in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was elected unanimously by his colleagues in 2008 to serve as Republican Whip, the second-highest position in the Senate Republican leadership, a position he held until his retirement in 2013. TIME magazine recognized Senator Kyl as one of the "World’s 100 Most Influential People" in 2010, and as one of the 10 best senators in 2006. Capitol Hill's newspaper, The Hill, identified him as one of the "25 hardest working lawmakers." Before his public service, Kyl practiced law at Jennings, Strouss & Salmon in Phoenix. In 1985, he served as chairman of the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce.
"It's a great honor to have Senator Jon Kyl joining us at AEI," said AEI president Arthur C. Brooks. "Over a distinguished twenty-six year career of service to the people of Arizona, first in the House and then the Senate, Senator Kyl has gained great insight into America’s global role. I am delighted that he will be leading and endeavor that I, Ambassador Marilyn Ware and the entire AEI community believe in wholeheartedly: Rebuilding a new vision and commitment to American greatness."
