Virginia pols and polls

 

Off-year elections differ in important ways from presidential elections. More committed individuals tend to turn out to vote in these contests. Young people, in particular, are more likely to stay home.

In Virginia this year, where a gubernatorial race is being held, these electoral characteristics, which tend to benefit the GOP, don't seem to be helping Republican Ken Cuccinelli, as he trails Democrat Terry McAuliffe in all recent polling.
