Event Summary

On November 6, AEI hosted an event with education policy experts to discuss what the 2024 elections mean for education.

The event began with a summary of the November 5 election results covering the presidential race, the congressional races, and various state races and referenda. In his introduction, AEI’s Nat Malkus focused on the impact these results may have on education policy. Afterward, panelists reflected on what Trump’s victory might mean for different aspects of education policy, including student loans, college leaders’ responses to campus protests, school choice, and accountability. Ginny Gentles of the Defense of Freedom Institute and Derrell Bradford of 50CAN focused mostly on choice, the Campaign for Our Shared Future’s Heather Harding touched on civility in education, AEI’s Preston Cooper concentrated on higher education, and AEI’s Frederick M. Hess examined federal and state education policy generally.

The event concluded with an audience Q&A.
